Meralco – a leader in electric power generation
The Manila Electric Company (commonly known as MERALCO) is the largest electrical power distributor in the Philippines with a tagline: “May liwanag ang buhay”.
The MERALCO is an acronym for Manila Electric Railroad And Light COmpany, which comes from the company’s original name from 1903 to 1919. (source)
Just recently, it was reported that Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and Commission on Audit (COA) found out that Meralco has been overcharging its rates in year 2004 and 2007 above the 12% rate of return set by the law. (source)
