The hostage taking of ex-Police Inspector Rolando Mendoza

An ex-Senior Inspector took hostage a Hong-Tai tourist bus parked near the Quirino Grandstand. Inside the bus were mostly chinese nationals consisting of children and adults. It started at 10:15 am but eventually ended after about 12 hours with four confirmed dead.

Rolando del Rosario Mendoza was once recognized as among the “10 Most Outstanding Policemen” in the country. He served under District Mobile Police Unit (DMPU).

In 2008, he was transferred to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) after a robbery-extortion case in Vito Cruz, Ermita, Manila.
