August 23 as special non-working holiday in the Philippines
The Aquino Administration is currently studying if August 23 will be declared as special non-working holiday since it is the nearest monday to August 21 which is a Ninoy Aquino Day.
During a press conference, the president said he was uncomfortable with the idea of declaring a special non-working holiday which commemorates the death of his father.
However, we found out that August 23 is also the anniversary of the “Cry of Pugadlawin” — the shouting of Katipuneros, the tearing of their cedulas, and the start of war against the Spanish colonizers.

The possible declaration will be considered since its part of the Holiday Economics Law or Republic Act (RA) 9492 which was implemented during the Arroyo Administration.
