Ariel Querubin’s release and his biography

Ariel Querubin was released. A good news for his family and friends. Some of us know that he was detained in Camp Aguinaldo after taking partin the seven hour standoff at Fort Bonifacio. It was an alledged attempt to unseat former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and a protest against the voluntary relief of his commandant Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda in 2006.

Before the standoff, he was a Philippine Marine Corps colonel (which one rank away into becoming a Brigadier General). He was born in Pangasinan, raised in La Union and educated in Manila. A graduate of 1979 batch of Philippine Military Academy with master’s degree in defense studies from the University of Canberra.

He was a co-founder of a military fraternity: Young Officers’ Union, an arm of Reform the Armed Forces Movement (RAM).

Among his greatest achievements were leading the battalion against the MILF in Kauswagan, Lanao Del Norte where his team took over the rebel’s Camp John Mack. He also took part in the operation against Abu Sayyaf spokesperson: Abu Sabaya in the sea of Zamboanga Del Norte.

He is a great army officer who received every medal he could get including the Medal of Valor, One Distinguished Conduct Star, Two Distinguished Service Stars, Seven Gold Cross, and alot more to mention.

However, during the Cory Aquino Administration he joined a coup attempt where he was badly injured. He was even dumped among dead bodies but thanks to a doctor who saw a finger twitch from the soldier. After that, he was nursed back to health according to Inquirer.

During the May 2010 Elections, he tried politics by being a candidate for Senator under the Nacionalista Party. Unfortunately, he didn’t won.
