Jesse Robredo as DILG Secretary of Aquino Administration

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has a new secretary after President Aquino formally appointed the ex-Naga City Mayor Jesse Robredo. According to reports, Vice-President Jejomar Binay have been eyeing for that position.

The newly-appointed head of the department has a good personal background. He is the youngest Chinese-Filipino mayor in the philippine political history after being elected in 1988 as Naga City Mayor. Under his term, Naga was identified as one of the “Most Improved Cities in Asia” by Asiaweek Magazine in 1999. He was also the first mayor to received the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service in 2000.

He obtained his undergraduate degrees in Industrial Management Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at the De La Salle University (DLSU). He took his Masters in Public Administration at John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1999.
